Unique opportunity for an Operations Executive with a strong commercial mindset, who wants to build and head an organization that is ambitious about continuing an international expansion. First Cargo has recently been acquired by the successful freight forwarding company BHS Logistics as part of their ambitions to expand their international presence and network.
Founded in 2000 by four partners, First Cargo is an internationally operating forwarding agent with 22 employees in Sweden and 8 employees in Madrid. The head office is in Gothenburg and with terminal hubs in Portugal, Spain, and Italy. First Cargo has always delivered growth, and within the last three to four years, the growth has been significant. The company is the third largest transport company on the Iberian Peninsula to and from Sweden and has been Triple A rated since 2005. Furthermore, the company is certified in ISO 26000, ISO 14001, and ISO 9001 and has a strong focus on sustainability in their operations.
As part of a natural transition in ownership and leadership, we are looking for a Managing Director to take over the integration with BHS Logistics, market expansion, and continuous development of the organisation.
The role will report to the Board of Directors, and with a dotted line to BHS Logistics’ Group COO. The role will work primarily out of Gothenburg and have some commuting to an office in Malmoe, BHS Logistics’ office in Koege, Denmark, and to international sites.
Strategic Leadership, Business Development, and International Expansion
As Managing Director, you will be expected to continue building business, expanding into new markets, and heading an organisation of skilled people – and to do it with respect and appreciation of First Cargo’s heritage and results. Some of the projects and developments you will oversee are:
Set a direction together with the Board of Directors.
Manage budgeting and financial planning and oversee performance KPIs and cost efficiencies as well as resource planning (OPEX).
Develop new traffic for a full coverage of Europe and develop and execute sales and marketing strategies and the right market positioning.
Acquire new customers and build revenue with existing customers.
Lead a diverse organisation with different capabilities, i.e., Sales, Finance, Operations, and external partners.
Lead an integration of First Cargo with BHS’ established processes and systems and represent First Cargo regarding investments, due diligences, and expansion.
Be a support to and report to the Board of Directors.
Transport Executive with a distinct Commercial Outlook and People Profile
As Managing Director, you are genuinely interested in leading and motivating others, with an eye for their development needs and competencies as well as having a strong commercial outlook. It is natural for the you to engage with others, and to establish relations internally and towards customers and partners. In your interaction with others, you are communicative, a convincing presenter, likeable and conscientious and dedicated to delivering results.
Because of your experience and personality, it comes natural to you to establish structures and processes, and to create an environment, where people feel safe, trusted, and where they can focus on their deliveries. You can lead change, while not jeopardising what already works well.
Professionally, you present yourself as a commercially oriented operations leader, with a modern mindset and experience from a transportation / freight forwarding company. Your other skills include:
People management experience, as right hand to a Managing Director or as Managing Director.
International or Nordic experience, with a multi-cultural awareness and fluency in Swedish and English.
Some exposure to sustainability related topics.
Strong skills in MS Office applications, and a general broad IT system understanding.
Analytical and conceptual skills with the ability to translate concepts into actions.
