A Sustainable Future in Motion

The Road to the Future

On The Road to Sustainable Transports

First Cargo AB is a Swedish forwarding company with offices in Gothenburg, Malmö and subsidiary in Madrid. Since January 2024, our owners are Danish BHS Logistics, based on Bornholm. Since we started in the summer of 2000, our motto has been personal service with great commitment in the transports we carry out for industrial and commercial companies.

With the help of handpicked employees and suppliers, we have created an environment of well-being that is appreciated by all stakeholders. Developing together and refining the product is made possible, among other things, by the fact that we not only look for the cheapest solution, but also look to sustainability and fairness. Long-term relationships benefit us all.

Reducing Carbon Footprints at Work

ISO Certifications for Quality & Compliance

We have been certified according to ISO 9001 and 14001 since 2011. Since 2022 we have become the first forwarding company to be verified with the ISO 26000 in Sweden. This provides an important overview of our sustainability work and links to the SDGs – the UN’s global goals.

How We’re Reducing Our Climate Impact

Our greatest climate impact is emissions from road transport. However, these emissions occur in Scope 3. Determined to lower these emissions – within our value chain – we hav echosen to invest in reduction in emissions at the source – where oil is extracted.

Responsibility and Justice – Our Backbone

Creating fair conditions for everyone in our sphere of interest is absolutely fundamental for us. We prioritize a high quality in our services and do not always strive to earn as much as possible from each transport, but emphasise more on it being carried out correctly.

How we Work with Sustainability

The Climate Promise – Klimatlöftet

One company cannot do everything for the climate, but together with others we can make big changes! The Climate Promise is a new initiative for companies that want to reduce their climate impact. Initiated by the West Sweden Chamber of Commerce, this project gathers companies from all over Västra Götaland and a number of different industries are represented.

Initiatives we support

Part of our sustainability work is to do good and give something back in our society. We want to do our bit and above all, protect young and vulnerable people. This is why we support intitiatives like Ågrenska, Faktum, Zero Tolerance on Bullying, the Night Walkers, the Hammakullen Carnival and a project in In the vulnerable area of Biskopsgården in Gothenburg.

ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 – Compliance & Structure

For us, it is natural to work with ISO 9001 to ensure the quality of our services and processes, leding to increased customer satisfaction amd trust. ISO 14001 is important for managing the environmental impact of our operations, reducing negative environmental impact, and promoting sustainability – which is increasingly in demand by customers and stakeholders.

ISO 26000

Social Responsibility in accordance with the Global Goals

ISO 26000 is an international guide to corporate social responsibility (CSR). By applying its guidelines, we are able to integrate social responsibility into our operations, improving stakeholder relations and contributing to sustainable development. It helps us to manage our social and ethical impacts in a systematic way. By putting resources into our implementation of ISO 26000 and its seven principles, we strive to put into writing what we are already doing and also identifying what can be done and building an environment of preventive work, rather than “putting out fires”.

GLA – global partnership

Our membership of the Global Logistics Associates network enables us to provide coverage for all continents through our own agents.

Code of Conduct

“We don’t transport anything for anyone”

Our CoC gives clear ethical guidelines and standards of behavior for our employees, suppliers, partners, and other stakeholders. This code helps ensure that everyone associated with the company understands and adheres to principles of integrity, professionalism, and compliance with laws and regulations.  Additionally, the code of conduct helps align our company’s actions with our values and contributes to a positive company culture.

Why do we work with sustainability?2024-02-06T17:10:52+00:00

Because it is built into our business concept. First Cargo AB started out of a desire to make transport a little more personal. “We take it personally” may sound a bit funny and witty, but it also has a deeper meaning for us. With us, responsibility and justice are cornerstones. In our value chain, no one should have to come to harm, be exposed to threats, bullying or unfair conditions. We would rather refuse a deal than do something that is not in line with our Code of Conduct. In order to structure the sustainability commitment, we work with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 26000.

In what ways do we work with sustainability?2024-02-15T10:33:10+00:00

Sustainability – and especially social engagement – has been built into our compay since the start in 2000. Our motto “We take it personally” doesn’t mean we’re snarky at all – it means we take great personal responsibility for every transport, and that we are allways there for the customer or supplier.

To structure our work with quality, environmelt and sustainability issues, we have chosen to work according to ISO 9001, 14001 since 2011. Lately, we became the first transport company to be verified according to ISO 26000, in 2022. The latter includes more of social sustainability issues and uses the UN Global Goals Framework as a basis.

Responsibility and justice are cornerstones in our business. We do our best at honor them, together with our suppliers, partners and customers. We aim at fair and equitable conditions for suppliers’ drivers and our own staff. We work together with the Customs in order to prevent smuggling. We have long-term collaborations with suppliers rather than one-offs. And we don’t transport anything for anyone.

We want to give something back to the community in which we operate. So apart from paying all taxes etc, we support some specific initiatives targeted at vulnerable people and youth. Read more…

Why do First Cargo’s longhauls, to the continent and back, run on diesel?2024-02-23T10:13:17+00:00

The historic backbone of our business is longhaul transports – often door-to-door – to the continent and back. These tours cannot currently be operated by electric vehicles, and train transports require transhipment between France and Spain – the width of the rails is changed there. Maritime transports require container shipments, and many of our customers have smaller amounts of goods. So for the time beeing, our best option is to opt for suppliers with Euro6 engines, good tires and drivers using ecodriving. Groupage is our experise area, and we look to intermodal solutions whenever suitable. We also put emphasis on the drivers’ situation, so they have the opportunity to do a good job. As for the emissions these transports generate, we lower our total impact by bying insets – which is a garantee for reducing emissions from oil drilling significantly through technology. Read more…
