GLA 30 years FC member

April 29, 2024

Since 2007, First Cargo Sweden has been a member of GLA – on the recommendation from Garland, who joined in 1995. Our former owner and colleague Sven Algholm was president of GLA until his illness in 2022, and he continued to serve on the board until his passing in Dec 2023.

GLA, Global Logistics Associates, was formed in 1989. It’s a non-profit organization that emphasizes the importance of relationships and trust to create good business between members. GLA is set up as an exclusive network, which means all members have to go through a rigorous on-boarding process. They follow the principle of “one member per port,” which prevents internal competition.

Within GLA, members work in committees on various issues. For example, Adam Henningsson from our team has been part of the “New members” group since 2019. “GLA means a significant marketing gain for members,” he says. “The global coverage GLA provides us is very valuable – we cover all continents except Antarctica! Recently, for example, we received orders to Antigua and Chile…” Through collaboration, First Cargo can offer shipments worldwide.

Every year, GLA holds a member conference somewhere in the world – this year it’s Mexico’s turn. “Unfortunately, First Cargo cannot attend this time, but we look forward to participating in the coming years. These meetings provide a lot of value for all parties involved and enhance the quality of our offerings,” Adam concludes.
