Two of the largest unions in Spain have announced road transport strikes for a total of seven days across the next two months. The strikes are scheduled to occur between October and December. The planned dates for the action are Monday, October 28; Friday, November 11; November 28 and 29; and December 5, 9, and 23. If their requirements are not addressed by the government by the start of the new year, the strikes may carry on indefinitely.
The unions are calling for the retirement age to be lowered from 67 and for the right to partial retirement, citing the physical and cognitive demands of the job. A similar strike in 2022 had significant impacts on Spain’s supply chains, food availability, inflation, and economic growth.
